Essays

I guess I'm really an essayist at heart.  They occasionally let me write come columns in my two years at the Beacon, and I tried to wax profound.   This was also a time when Desert Storm was the big issue on campus, and at least three of my columns dealt with it (though for 'space considerations' at least one never got printed).  I also wrote some essays for the Art of the Essay class.   While in Chicago, I helped an evangelical church start up, and I gave a couple of brief warmups for the sermon.  The pastor would give me a rough draft of what he wanted me to say, and then I would polish it to suit my style of speech and turn of phrase.  And in my posting on Compuserve and other places, I've got a lot of miscellaneous stuff too, like book and movie reviews.
