Day of Learning in Community
March 24, 2010
Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to Northwestern’s 3rd annual Day of Learning in Community. Classes and regular activities will be canceled so members of the campus and wider community can attend keynote presentations and workshops focused on the ways Christianity and popular culture connect and conflict.
Keynote speakerJeffrey Keuss, Ph.D.
A professor of Christian ministry at Seattle Pacific University and an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Dr. Keuss has served as a teacher and preacher in the Pacific Northwest, Ireland, Scotland and Burkino Faso. He holds a doctorate from the Centre for the Study of Literature, Theology and the Arts at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and has been called “an engaging interpreter of theology in popular culture” by colleagues at “The Kindlings.” Modeled after “The Inklings”—which included C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien—“The Kindlings” aims to rekindle the spiritual, intellectual and creative legacy of Christians in culture. Keuss’s work with youth and scholarly research on Christ and culture has led to books, articles and presentations on diverse subjects like the Columbine killings, Dr. Seuss, Stanley Kubrick, Cormac McCarthy, Narnia, Bruce Springsteen, Star Wars, Donald Trump and U2.
