We are not simply another creature created by God. Nor are we only one of many creatures that act as interdependent parts of an ecosystem. The actions that we as humans take on impact the collective body of creation more so than any other creature on the planet. That is because of our imagination, and the relentless pursuit of those things that we imagine. We are created in God’s own image; we are of and for God. Because we impact the world so heavily, and that we are of God and for God, we should, and are called, to protect and to provide for all of creation.
